Guru Nanak Govt. College, Kala Afghana (Gurdaspur) came into existence in 1969 marking the 500th birth anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. It was later acquired by Government of Punjab on 01st June 1974 and was affiliated to Guru Nanak Dev University. In 2020, it was re-opened under the aegis of The Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University, Patiala. The state run MBSPSU University aims to promote a scientific sports culture along with the best educational skills among the youth of Punjab. This college has especially been re-opened with the aim of reviving sports culture and imparting sports education to the youth of the border area.
The college has earlier made tremendous progress under the useful guidance of honorable principals like Variyam Singh, Hardyal Singh, Sukhwant Singh Gill and Dr. Manmohan Singh. Its green campus is well-equipped with modern infrastructure such as smart classrooms, standard Athletic Track and various play grounds. It is committed to create a bright and vibrant future for its students and also aims to impart value education to the youth with the aim of making them committed against drug abuse. The college has been honoured with alumni like Kulwant Singh (Athlete), Karamjeet Singh (Pole Vault) Manmohan Singh (High Jump), Sukhdev Singh Pannu (Athlete).
The college is being visualized as a place of education as well as a hub for sports activities in the coming years. Its well-qualified teaching faculty, on-campus facility of football coach along with football ground and other extensive playing fields such as kabaddi, volleyball, and badminton mark its visionary profile for the future.
